SAMARITAN INSTITUTE AWARD
Beacon Center
Court House, Inc. (later renamed as Beacon Center)
was founded in 1969, by Judge Marvin Foote of the 18th Judicial
District, with the purpose of providing services to at-risk youth.
Youth who were detained in jail were often placed with adult
offenders establishing a detrimental practice for the success of
juvenile rehabilitation. Judge Foote found help from his fellow
judges in creating his program, which provides therapeutic and
academic services for at-risk youth; support for early parenthood and
independent living situations in addition to victims of neglect, drug
and alcohol abuse. For more than 37 years Beacon Center has provided
only the highest-quality help to at-risk youth. The non-profit
collaborates openly with peer organizations and community partners
and searches for new methods of expanding their reach of influence.
